Richard Wilson, Senior Project Manager at Overbury, the office fit-out and refurbishment specialist discusses the magnetic, timber-flooring system developed by Tier Global, which was used by Overbury for a prestigious project spread over six floors in Clerkenwell, London.
“All of the mechanical, electrical and fire alarm services would be situated below the raised access flooring, and so it would need constant access for servicing and maintenance. This meant is was not ideally suited to timber flooring – but the client really wanted the timber floor finish.”
“That led us to Tier Global. They developed a fully accessible magnetic timber floor system custom-designed for this project.”
“We’ve used other, similar products before and always experienced issues with expansion and warping. So we were apprehensive about using this one on such a large scale. However, the Tier Global system incorporated some very innovative design solutions to mitigate these type of issues.”
“The system has been in place for a year now and we carry out maintenance and servicing below the floor void every three months. Every time we go back we’ve been able to easily lift and reinstate the timber flooring without impacting on the quality of the finish. We’ve experienced absolutely no issues with expansion, contraction or warping. The surface finish of the timber has stood up really well to the usage over the year since installation. In fact it looks as good today as the day it was installed.”
“We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Tier Global system as an ideal solution for accessible timber flooring.”
